Service Engineer (junior)

The Highstreet platform is growing and that's why we are looking for a Service Engineer who is responsible for working with our clients and internal teams to connect and maintaining the retail apps on our platform. You will write code in Swift and Java to get apps live for world-class brands like Scotch & Soda, Vince and Marlies Dekkers. The platform allows for customisation, theming, and integration that differs per brand. You will be writing brand specific code that is built on top of the Highstreet platform.

This is the perfect job for a developer who likes to work with clients and who likes to work with different programming languages and environments (mobile, web, and backend).

Who we are

In 2013, Highstreet Mobile Retail was born believing that the future of shopping is mobile and we can help make online and offline shopping much nicer. Nowadays, more than 50% of e-commerce is taking place on mobile devices. However, the user experience of shopping on smartphones and tablets is far from great. That is what we want to change with Highstreet.

Our platform lets brands create a high-quality native retail app based on their existing webshop in just a few weeks. It is our mission to create the best mobile shopping experience. We work hard to make shopping on mobile frictionless, inspirational, and personal. We are always pushing the limits of what’s possible on mobile and our service engineer plays a crucial role here.

Check our website for more details about what we do and to experience one of our apps, please download the Scotch & Soda app for iOS or Android.

How we work

We drive on smart ideas and great team work. As a Service Engineer you’ll be working closely with one other Service Engineer and our designers and back and frontend developers. Together we create amazing retail apps which make customers smile. You play a key role in delivering the best mobile shopping experience for our clients.

We embrace your ideas on how to improve the Highstreet platform. You can gain and share knowledge in our monthly dev sessions. We order pizza, have drinks, and enjoy presentations and code workshops together.

What your job will be like

You know all the ins and outs of the platform and oversee what is possible and what is not.

When a brand joins our platform you will write code that leads to a state-of-the-art iOS and Android app. On top of that, you will update merchant specific code as the platform releases new updates. Merchant specific code is written in Swift, Java, and Ruby.

From the start you will get a lot of responsibility. You will be working both with the client’s technical team and with developers and designers in our team.

Also, when a bug report comes in, you will help the support team by identifying the cause of the issue. E.g. whether it is a problem in custom code, platform code, in the app, our servers, or the customer's servers.

Your tasks

  • Perform analysis of new customers to identify the correct configuration and possible custom work
  • Work with the design team to implement the correct look and feel for each customer
  • Work with the product team when implementing client specific customizations
  • Work with the support team to analyse bug reports
  • Ship new apps and updates to the App Store and Google Play Store
  • Identify tasks that can be automated and work on automating them
  • Suggest and develop improvements in the core product

Who are you?

You are a starter that wants to learn and grow in software development. You are eager to learn from experienced engineers. You enjoy learning programming languages. You can and are willing to handle a lot of responsibility. You care deeply about your work and have a drive to get all details right. Your perseverance to fix an issue is endless. You take the time to think before you write code. You take initiatives and are self-starting. You enjoy working with other team members but are also able to focus on your own code.

Your skills

  • You have basic understanding of Swift, Objective-C, or Java (it's more important that you learn quickly than that you are an expert in these languages )

  • You are a great communicator and have a 'getting things done' mentality
  • You are well organized and are able to oversee multiple projects
